Social Media has become a near-essential piece of our lives and has engraved itself in every successful business strategy as well. Needless to say, it plays a part in recruitment too.
Social media has given us a relatively cheap way to reach out to a large number of potential employees. But, a great deal of strategizing and planning is required to execute social recruitment successfully.
With 95% of recruiters using social media to source and select talent, and with an increasing number of skilled candidates spending a good part of their day on Facebook and other social platforms, it is obvious that ‘recruiting online’ is the way to go.
For attracting good candidates for recruitment, you need a good social media presence. Luckily here how to create a strategy you can deploy to enhance your presence and supplement for your recruitment efforts on social media.
Plan who’ll contribute to the social media efforts
Finding the right people to handle social media is important. Many companies make the mistake of tasking their HR teams to manage the social media pages. These professionals, although fully aware of the company’s value and business, may lack expertise in social media.
Without the right knowledge and skills to handle the pages, social media can take up a lot of time and effort. Because cause social media is active 24/7, the queries may come on busy days and need to be answered quickly. And you may end up losing the potential customer to a competitor.
You must plan on who all will provide the social media content. You might consider recruiting a good communicator, who’ll be able to convey the message and attract customers with quality content, to handle the social media pages. HR staff shouldn’t be the sole contributors here but may assist in social media operations.
Policy for reviewing only the relevant details
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are increasingly used as screening tools.
Though these platforms give you the required data, they may also expose extra information about personal choices such as political or religious views. Consequently, If a company makes a hiring decision based on this extra information, it could become vulnerable to a lawsuit.
Companies should draft policies that outlined HR screening guidelines to avoid such complications and The information to be considered relevant for screening a candidate should be listed out in this policy. This includes the number of years of work experience, qualifications, and credentials, and should prohibit from using any other personal information.
Select your platforms and start today
Those new to social media, should start with one or two platforms and eventually expand their efforts to include a few more. The platforms you select should align with your purpose and the roles you want to hire for. Facebook or Instagram is good when searching for entry-level candidates, but would not work so well for management personnel. Moreover, decision-makers are more likely to be active on LinkedIn.
Apart from these platforms, don’t forget to keep an eye on sites that provide company insights and reviews. One such site – Glassdoor has gained popularity and has become the go-to place for candidates considering applying for a company. Use your company’s Glassdoor page to feature the benefits offered, work culture, and other valuable information. But, remember that you can’t control the review you get.
Perfect your Social Recruitment Strategy
Once you have developed a strategy aligned with the company’s goals, missions, and vision, you need to monitor the result. Nobody creates a perfect plan in the first go. Moreover, it takes time to test and optimize your efforts.
Only those companies that put an effort into enhancing their social presence , will attract and hire the best employees.
