Recruiters need to stay on top of the industry trends and practices to perform at their best. This applies to all recruiters: newbie or experienced, in-house or external. All of us also need to learn from others’ experiences – nobody can make all the mistakes in one lifetime; we must learn from other’s mistakes as well. It can be difficult to find the best books made for recruiters amongst the crowd.
A good way to do so is to read about other professionals’ learnings. The more you read, the more enlightened you’ll be.
So to help you attain more knowledge about the subject, we present 5 books by Indian HR professionals for fellow Recruiters. These books will throw light upon the vision, mission, and challenges faced, as well as on some of the tools and techniques of the recruitment industry
Social Recruiters : Future of Recruitment
This book talks about the future of the recruitment industry and is one of the gems that I highly recommend. It talks about the standard hiring process followed all over the world and how social media plays an irreplaceable part today.
Social Media, on one hand, makes it easy for recruiters to release information about job openings, but, on the other hand, it challenges them to look for new ways to attract good talent. Because consumers’ options are expanding and their preferences are changing with it, the hiring process is changing too.
The book talks about the personal and professional skills you need to acquire to be a good social recruiter and the tools you may use. Social Recruiters also puts forward some good strategies and success stories. Apart from recruitment through social media, this book also talks about the social skills that will help your proficiency as a recruiter.
Amit Sharma has written this book after 20 years of experience in the Recruitment Industry. He is a well known Executive Search Consultant and the founder of BIG Ideas HR Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
Chanakya – A visionary Human Resource Manager
This book talks about the principles of HRM (Human Resource Management) used by Chanakya as well as about his views on Recruiting, Training, and Motivating human resources. You’ll see how these managing principles are still relevant in the 21st century. It can thus be useful to gain a better understanding of the human resource practices in the context of modern HRM.
The authors have taken a lot of ideas from the original book, but they have also simplified the ideas to be interpreted in the modern format. And thus have created a piece that is easy to read by not only the HR professionals but all the readers in general.
Santosh Bagwe and Tushar Kokane have done an excellent job translating the ideas from Kautilya’s Arthashastra to be more relatable to modern-day HR practitioners. Tushar is an experienced HR professional with broad expertise in managing human resource capital.
Nail The Deal: 6 Steps Blueprint to become the Highly Paid Recruiter
This book captures the necessary elements of an IT Recruiter to flourish in his/her career. Nail the Deal captures your attention by talking about the concerns faced by recruiters and throws light upon solutions that would allow you to nail all the deals yourself.
Suman Panchigulla, the author, talks of his learnings from the successful people he has encountered. Suman talks about everything, right from the day to day problems, recruiting mindset, understanding the job requirements, sourcing candidates, and more.
Hiring Horror: Unheard Stories Based on Real Incidents
This book shows that hiring is not only about acquiring talent, but also about analyzing human behaviour, accessing capabilities, and checking for red flags – all this in a small amount of time. Hiring Horrors is a compilation of 17 real-life incidents that occurred in India, and each story has a lesson to teach.
This book will tell you what a bad hire can do and how a normal hiring situation can turn nasty. The stories are very well linked keeping the main idea of the book in mind. This one keeps you engrossed till the very end.
Sukesh Koka, the author of the book, is an HR professional with almost 20 years of experience across the globe. He is an expert in behavioural descriptive interviewing and coaches my young management students.
How to Recruit, Incentivize and Retain Millennials
The list of books for recruiters won’t be complete without this one!
‘What do millennials want from their job?’ This is a million-dollar question these days. Is it the job with the highest salary? One that pushes them to perform better? One that provides more and more chances to learn something new? Or is it the job that is a perfect person-organization fit?
Attracting and retaining millennials for their unique skills and outlook has been difficult. Because millennials have different needs and expectations that are not very easy to satisfy. This book talks about the problems HR managers face while working with millennials. It also gives some great tips on how to leverage millennial talent.
Dheeraj Sharma, the author of this book, is a professor of Management and director of IIM Rohtak as well as a professor on leave from IIM Ahmedabad.
